Videokaffe exhibition at Galerie Herold in the Güterbahnhof Bremen, Germany, during September 2025.
Güterbahnhof Bremen is a former freight yard that has served as a workspace for independent and creative artists and cultural practitioners since 1997. It is one of the key venues for independent art and culture in Bremen. The area offers a wide range of facilities, including studio halls, rehearsal spaces, production studios, workspaces, and exhibition and event rooms dedicated to contemporary art and culture. More than 300 artists and cultural professionals work there in about 100 studios. Each year, over 200 events are held on the old railway yard, Güterbahnhof, ranging from exhibitions to concerts.
Galerie Herold is a gallery founded in 1994 in the Güterbahnhof. It is maintained by a group of artists who work in the Güterbahnhof area. The gallery features exhibitions by local, national, and international artists, with a particular focus on local and international creators. Each year, Galerie Herold hosts seven to eight exhibitions, as well as a number of performances, lectures, and other events. Artistic networks in which they participate are also part of the gallery’s program.
In addition to exhibitions, Galerie Herold organizes a range of exchange projects with other artistic groups and art festivals. From time to time, the gallery is also used as a guest studio, offering visiting artists the opportunity to work on their projects onsite while getting to know Bremen and its surroundings. Galerie Herold is part of Bremen’s old freight station, the Güterbahnhof, and is funded by the Bremen Senator for Culture.
